ENIGMA OF ICON: A WINDOW TO HEAVEN
PhotoArt Project
In loving memory of America's first female iconographer Shirley Kontos
and in celebration of all the female iconographers
''When people see these, they'll really feel they are in Church…
They can see deeper;
they're not going to feel walled out''.
Shirley Kontos
The Angel Guardian Prayer
O Angel of Christ, holy guardian and protector of my soul and body, pray for me to the Lord, that He may make me worthy of the grace of the All-Holy Trinity, and of all the Saints, Amen.

A Prayer on the Rainy Day:
In every icon I see my Greek Mother
I remember the sky's infinity and transparency and…one blinking star. It was so close that I could hold it in my hands. I still keep in mind – nearly half a century later – the feeling of infinity which is beyond our human nature.
Many years later I recalled that star when I faced adversity. It was the Christmas of my life, always echoing with the prayers of the Greek mother.
Sometimes it is worthy to listen to our childhood memories: our souls select the main motif which energizes us for going ahead. The Star of Bethlehem appears in the nativity story of my life Gospel. Childhood memories are unique. We remember what touches our hearts, we remember details turning to blessings, we remember the prayers of our mothers. It was fairly noted by Abraham Lincoln: ''I remember my mother's prayers and they have always followed me. They have clung to me all my life".
